Singapore Plastic Surgery - Before and After Reviews 2023

Plastic surgery is a medical specialty that involves the reconstruction, restoration, or alteration of the human body. The most popular procedures in plastic surgery include breast augmentation, facelifts, rhinoplasty, liposuction, and tummy tucks. Plastic surgery can also be used for reconstructive purposes, such as repairing birth defects, burns, and injuries.

Plastic surgery has become increasingly popular over the years, with millions of procedures performed annually worldwide. To be clear, plastic surgery is a serious medical procedure that should not be undertaken lightly. Before undergoing any kind of plastic surgery, patients should do extensive research on their options, find a licensed and skilled surgeon, and carefully weigh the advantages and disadvantages.

Is Singapore a Safe Country to Undergo Plastic Surgery?

You may rest comfortable knowing that plastic surgery in Singapore is safe. Before they can operate, plastic surgeons must complete years of rigorous training and testing. All licensed medical professionals will also be registered with the Singapore Medical Council, which will guarantee that surgical protocol is followed.

To ensure that they have the necessary expertise to provide the finest results, many plastic surgeons even enroll in additional specialised training programmes locally and overseas.

Singapore Plastic Surgery - Before and After Reviews

#1. Gracechua.com - Double Eyelid Surgery Review

Review Date: April 2021

When I went under (sedated) during the surgery, Dr Adrian worked his magic. The whole procedure felt like a short nap to me, and it was surprising to learn that the procedure took me 90 minutes!

The more excess fats or skin in the upper eyelid, the more complex the surgery, I later learned.

I woke up to heavy and swollen eyes, naturally. I was allowed to leave after being given a list of tips to take care of my newly-formed eyelids. The list included things like applying the antiseptic, no washing of the face for the first day, no makeup.. etc.

The kind nurse also took the time to explain to me how to care for my new eyelids with the ointment and pain medication.

But it was worth. It. 🙌🏽 Seeing my eyes in the mirror, it’s as though they’ve gotten larger, and the results looked almost natural! I blinked a few times to see if they would disappear. They didn’t!

#2 Huihui - Dr Shenthilkumar Naidu | Double Eyelid Surgery Review

Review Date: September 2015

I did my double eyelid surgery via the DST (Double Sulture & Twisting) / non-incisional method at Cambridge Medical Group by Dr Shenthilkumar Naidu. He has since left the clinic to open on his own – details of his clinic below.

DST is a sophisticated version of the traditional stitching method, meaning it is more secure. Instead of double twisting, Dr Shen does triple twisting so that it is extra tight and secure.

I trust Dr Shen’s skills as he was trained in Korea - everyone knows that Korea has the best and most advanced plastic surgery techniques. I have also found a few blogs recommending Dr Shen for double eyelid surgery, which prompted me to book a consultation with him in the first place.

Before
I was born with tapered eyelids. As you may know, the crease in tapered eyelids are usually very small. The crease starts from the tip of the corner of the eye and extends gradually to the end of the eye. Most of the time with eyeliner on, I look like I have mono lids. I used to wear double eyelid stickers, but the brand I was using was discontinued (I was very, very loyal to that brand). Therefore, I started looking at undergoing surgery to get to the root of the problem once and for all!

After
It has been more than a month now; my double eyelids are looking very natural. I am extremely pleased with the results! Most people, even my friends, couldn’t tell that I had surgery done. Tiny scars are visible if you look very closely, but they will heal in no time. I am most pleased that my natural double eyelid creases have disappeared after the surgery, and have been replaced with the new ones. Now that I don’t have multiple creases on my eyelids, I no longer look tired all the time!

#3. Celestia - Double Eyelid Surgery at Allure Plastic Surgery

Celestia dealt with droopy eyelids since young and tried threadlifts and even botox to improve the look of her eyes. While they worked, they did not give her the permanent results she wanted. Under Dr Ho’s suggestion, she did a triple suture technique to create natural double eyelids and epicanthoplasty to widen her eyes.

Celestia already had a bit of double eyelids but they were not very ‘opened’ and hiding behind her droopy eyes. Post surgery, her eyelids are significantly wider and together with the epicanthoplasty, she looks a lot more refreshed now!

Review Date - 7 April 2015

25 yr old female blogger sharing her personal experience including the double eyelid surgery cost. Her review was on her double eyelid surgery done by Dr Andrew Tay.

Personally, I am VERY insecure about my looks. So having a nice doctor is pretty important to me. I didn't want to deal with a doctor further criticising my looks. Plus, having a nice doc also puts you at ease :)

She also shared her results after 152 days post-surgery.

The reconstructive rhinoplasty offered in his clinic aims to repair broken noses post-accident, while the cleft rhinoplasty is for patients with abnormally shaped noses due to a cleft lip and palate.

Aside from that procedure, one of Dr. Goh’s most in-demand surgeries is the Asian rhinoplasty, which reshapes noses based on the Asian beauty standards. It’s popular not only among locals, but expats and tourists as well.

Some of the facial plastic procedures offered by Dr. Chua are nasal valve reconstruction, alloplasts, rhinoplasty, autologous cartilage, and septorhinoplasty. These are recommended mainly to patients with medical concerns and not for aesthetic purposes.

Dr. Ho specialises in surgical and non-invasive eye bag removal methods, such as canthopexy, microneedling, and transconjunctival blepharoplasty, among others.

Every patient will be given enough time to consult with him to make sure that their chosen procedure will be compatible with their condition and desired results. Dr. Ho will point out the risks and considerations that come with removing eye bags.

It’s worth noting that most eye bag removal procedures are partnered with other treatments for better results, so there are customised package deals available for patients who want to avail other services. This will help reduce the overall cost of the treatments.

FAQ

a. How Do I Prepare for a Surgical Consultation?

During your first consultation, you’ll be required to fill up the necessary forms prior to the actual consultation with your surgeon.

It would be good to come in with a general idea of what kind of procedure you would like to have and your expectations. You could also prepare for your consultation beforehand by coming up with a list of questions such as:

  • The surgical options you have
  • The risks and possible complications
  • What you can expect from the procedure
  • The type of anaesthesia used
  • Recovery time for the surgery
  • Any before or after photos of other surgeries your doctor has performed

Your plastic surgeon will work with you in managing your concerns and expectations. Some of these would be on:
  • What results you can expect from the procedure
  • How the surgery will be performed
  • Whether you are healthy enough to undergo the procedure
  • What kind of anaesthesia would be used
  • How you can prepare for the procedure
  • What you can expect during recovery
  • Operating room costs and surgeon’s fees
  • Whether the procedure is MediSave claimable
  • Other alternative procedures
  • Follow up appointments

While you can choose to confirm your surgery on the same day as your consultation, you should not feel obligated to make a decision immediately! Understandably, it may all be overwhelming and you should take it at a pace you’re comfortable with.

On some occasions, one consultation may not be enough for you to give the green light and new questions may arise. If so, that is perfectly normal. You can always call for a second consultation, and make sure to take note of the questions that need to be addressed before you can comfortably make a decision.

b. How Painful is Plastic Surgery?

The level of pain experienced during plastic surgery might vary depending on the specific procedure being performed, the patient's pain tolerance, and the surgical technique used. Commonly, plastic surgery involves making incisions, which can cause some discomfort, but most surgeons use anesthesia and pain medications to reduce pain during and after the surgery.

For minor procedures such as Botox injections or facial fillers, the pain is usually mild, and many people describe it as a slight pinching or burning sensation. However, for more invasive procedures such as breast augmentation, tummy tuck, or facelift surgery, the pain can be more intense and may need prescription pain medications for a few days or weeks after the surgery.

c. How Long Does a Plastic Surgery Last?

The duration of a plastic surgery procedure might vary based on the particular procedure being done, the extent of the operation, and the surgeon's ability and experience. While some treatments can be finished in a few hours, others might require many hours or even several sessions.

For instance, a facelift process can take from 3-6 hours depending on the complexity of the surgery, whereas a breast augmentation procedure normally lasts 1-2 hours. Treatments involving many body parts or requiring more complicated techniques may require more time to complete.

It's also crucial to remember that the length of the process does not always equal to the length of the healing time. Recovery times can differ depending on the treatment, the patient's overall health, and their capacity for recovering. While recovery from certain surgeries may take many weeks, others can allow for a quicker return to daily activities.

Before undergo any treatment, it's crucial to go over the expected length of the surgery and recovery period with your plastic surgeon so you know exactly what to anticipate.

d. Are Plastic Surgeries Reversible?

Depending on the specific operation being performed, some procedures can be reversed or corrected, while others may not be reversible or may require additional surgery to correct.

For instance, breast implants can be removed or replaced, and the results of a rhinoplasty (nose job) can be modified with a revision procedure.

However, some procedures, such as a facelift or a tummy tuck, can be difficult to reversed once they have been performed. These procedures involve removing extra skin and tissue, which cannot simply be replaced once removed. In some cases, additional surgery may be necessary to correct the results of these procedures if they are unsatisfactory.
