Finding the Best Plastic Surgeon (Cosmetic Surgeon) in Singapore (2023)

Are you looking for the best plastic surgeon for your plastic surgery in Singapore? To select a plastic surgeon, many of us rely on a single recommendation or even a random search through the search engine or social media platforms.

Best plastic surgeon Singapore
Plastic Surgery Singapore - Google Search Results

Do remember that the field of plastic surgery consists of many sub-specialties. Not all plastic surgeons are the same and certainly not all have experiences in all types of plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery procedures. To know more about the basics of plastic surgery, check out wikipedia.org.

Most of us will start by using our favourite search engine and Google “Plastic surgeons in Singapore”. You will get a list of search results and the top ones and the ones on the right column are advertisements. Bear in mind that the plastic surgeon's high ranking on page 1 and visible advertisements on Google may not be truly reflective of the surgeon's skills, experience and also how 'safe' is the surgeon. The plastic surgery clinic's ranking and visibility depends on their Google Adwords advertising, Google's search engine algorithms and also can be manipulated by some SEO (search engine optimisation) professionals and tools.

So, how do you shortlist the few?
I suggest you go through all the links on page 1 and shortlist a few plastic surgeons. Call up the centers and make your enquiries. Filter out those that are not able to provide you with the right information. A poorly trained staff tends to be a reflection of the centre as well. Do understand that a plastic surgery procedure requires team effort and poor support and management is a potential risk factor to the surgical procedure itself.

Next, you Google again the prospective plastic surgeon’s name and the centre; and add in the keywords ‘forum’ or ‘reviews’ to see what other people have to say about them. If you know a friend or relative who has an operation done before, make sure that you talk to him or her. However, make sure she is a trusted friend. Some centres or surgeons do offer commission scheme or ‘patient get patient’ referral scheme. Therefore, do not just rely on information provided by a single person. Do your research thoroughly. A surgery is a surgery. Mistakes do happen.

Next, search for their centre or clinic on Google Place, FourSquare or their Facebook Page. Check the reviews. Also, check with 'trusted' friends who have done the procedure that you are planning to go for.

In summary, you need to rely on your own online and offline research as well. Feedbacks from other doctors and patients need to be incorporated. It's also important to take into consideration ‘where’ the actual visit is, as the management of the hospital or the clinic plays an important role to provide crucial support to the practicing plastic surgeon.

Important Safety Notes

  • Go to the Singapore Medical Council website and check if your plastic surgeon is on the specialist register and accredited by the Specialist Accreditation Board. This is an important step for you to find out. Make sure that the Singapore plastic surgeon that you choose actually is a Singapore licensed surgeon. There have been cases where people searching for a bargain were accidentally killed by unlicensed Singapore plastic surgery practitioners who used the wrong tools, the wrong chemicals, and the wrong methods to get results. There are guidelines by the Singapore Medical Council on aesthetic practices in Singapore. The guidelines define who, what and where plastic surgery procedures can be and cannot be done in Singapore. You can download the guidelines here.
  • Do not go to a beautician for cosmetic surgeries. Although this is a given, the obsession to look beautiful may make you susceptible to unscrupulous cosmetic practitioners. A surgery has to be done by a surgeon, period. Not a beautician and not even a general practitioner. A plastic surgeon may refuse your wish for safety reasons. I suggest you follow the surgeons’ advice and move on to non-surgical methods.
After all the research and you are still not sure and comfortable, my advice is to postpone the decision. A cosmetic surgery procedure is not a medical emergency. So, don't get too worried about it and decide when the time is right. Do not get pressured into doing it as well. Another important point is not to use price as the major decision factor. You are not buying a hand bag. This is a 'surgery' and a 'cheap' surgery is something that you rather not do.
